我的唯二驕傲

Dear Parents,

It was a fantastic day to be at camp as blue skies and puffy white clouds welcomed the TES Y5 students. The buses arrived at half-past nine and the campers were shown to their tents — their homes for the next four days. Smiling faces and loud whispers were seen and heard on the trek to the tents where the children unpacked their things and got ready for the first program.

Once all were ready, we met in the dining hall to separate into groups and come up with team names. The groups settled on the following monikers: The Red Devils, The Orange Flames, The Golden Hornets, Blue Atlantis, and The Green Anacondas. Campers discussed how they planned on earning points throughout the week throug their behavior and came up with a list of values for their teams to display.

After lunch and a short rest, it was time to get started on the activities. The rotation today included five activities; rock climbing, river tracing, archery, games, and giant swing. Over the next three days, all the teams will get a chance to try each one. River tracing was fun despite the low water levels and kids showed great teamwork helping each other up the little water falls. In rock climbing, campers took turns scaling the more difficult outer wall. Climbing was harder this year than they remembered it from Y4 because of the harder route the Y5s take up the wall.

After showers, dinner and journals, it was campfire time. We had a great time singing songs, playing games, and, of course, roasting marshmallows for our S’mores. We sang a great rain song tonight, let’s hope it keeps the weather cooperating for us tomorrow.
